Maintenance

We offer a wide range of maintenance packages to our customers. We provide both spring and fall cleanups for your property. In the spring there are branches and leaves that the winter has left behind on lawns and flower beds. Eaves are also filled with debris that needs to be cleaned. It goes without saying that fall brings cleanup issues as the deciduous trees shed their leaves.

From late spring to early fall, everything starts to grow again. Trees and bushes need to be pruned & trimmed; lawns need to be cut on a regular basis. Shady Borbers can customize a monthly maintenance package to suit your needs. You are busy all week, take a rest and enjoy your property in your free time and let us do the work for you.

Lawn Care Services

A lush green, healthy lawn is no doubt the result of proper maintenance. When we refer to lawn care we mean a scheduled maintenance program for fertilizing, weed control and pest management. Other important topics to think about that pertain to lawn care include aeration, de-thatching, top-dressing and over seeding.

1.Fertilizer: The act of feeding your lawn the required nutrients needed to sustain healthy growth. Fertilizer consists of three basic ingredients: nitrogen, phosphorous, and potassium. Different ratios of these three elements will be present at different times of the year. For example, in spring your lawn requires a higher amount of nitrogen. For a new lawn you will require a higher phosphorous content to stimulate young roots.

2. Weed control: This should be applied at least twice a year. If you are aware that your property has been plagued with weeds in previous years, we strongly recommend a spring application be added to your program. At the bare minimum, you should fertilize your property three times a year. Most of our customers exceed this. It is generally considered standard practice to go with a lawn care program that will give you at least four fertilizer treatments and at least two weed control applications. Your Lawn Care program should follow the following schedule.

3. Insect Control: In recent years lawns have been plagued by the white grub and the chinch bug. Timing is crucial when dealing with these unwanted pests who have destroyed countless numbers of lawns. Usually one single treatment is applied in mid summer to deal with both forms of insect. If you are aware of an existing problem (especially grubs), a primary application can be made in the spring time. It is essential that you saturate your lawn after an application has been made to maximize results.

4.Core Aeration: This is when plugs of earth are removed from your lawn. The purpose is to allow you the roots of your lawn to breathe. Generally aeration is done in high growth cycles such as spring or fall. You should aerate at least once a year. Your lawn will hold water and absorb fertilizers much better. You will need to water your lawn less, and your lawn will be less prone to disease.

5.De-thatching: This is also done in spring or fall but a healthy lawn will only require de-thatching once every two to three years. Thatch removal will give your lawn a much healthier look and will also make your lawn more resilient to various pests and diseases.

6. Crabgrass Control: Crabgrass is tricky to control because it is treated before it has germinated. If you are aware that you have had crabgrass one season you should be sure to treat it the following spring. Crabgrass has the ability to spread very rapidly, so lawns that do not deal with the problem quickly are often overwhelmed within a few years.

7. Top-Dress, Over-seed: This can be done in spring or fall, again at your lawns heavy growth periods. Some lawns require a lot of work in this regard. Heavily treed lots will need to be patched up every year. Other lots will need to work on thin areas of growth or areas that have been damaged by pest or disease. It is recommended that you pay close attention to the type of lawn seed that you choose as not all seeds are created equal.

Happy Gardening!
