G8 is a group of industrialized nations. Its an exclusive club of the richest and most powerful countries in the world.

France, Germany, Britain, Japan and the United States founded the club in 1975.

Italy and Canada joined soon after. They formed to discuss energy security after the Arab oil embargo of 1973.

Since Russia became a full member in 1997, other economies are making powerful cases to join the exclusive club. Should China, India and Brazil be admitted to make it the G11? What about other nations?

Do you think the G8 should expand? Would an enlarged club make decision making more difficult? Is it an effective organisation? Has Africa benefited from being on the agenda last year? Will the G8 help solve problems over energy security and world trade? If more countries join, what would be the point of the United Nations?
